Conventions of Film Openings

  • Title sequence

  • Given a sense of the storyline and pace
  • Sets up the genre
  • Film title usually appears early on in the sequence

Classic Film Openings:

Start with a city scape, then focus in on a building, then move into a room and then we are shown the main characters in the film. An example of this would be the film opening for 'Psycho' released in 1960.
