Genre is a way of categorising films. Eg. Thriller, Romance, Action, Comedy, Horror
Genre is useful for institutions because it gives a set of tools and conventions for the makers. it also helps them to market the movie.
Genre helps audiences decide what film they want to see.
Sub genre is a subcategory within a particular genre. Eg. Action thriller, romance thriller, psychological thriller, drama thriller
I enjoy action thrillers and they are my favourite sub genre, i like the film 'In time'. Movies with action thriller are usually fast paste. It could influence my own film opening because it's quite different. It begins with a voice over and then goes into the movie. I like movies that don't have a long discrete beginning because they get boring. 'In time' is a movie all about time and how short there life can be so the whole movie is quite fast paste and you always know something interesting is about to happen.
